Accor and LVMH join forces to accelerate development of Orient Express

Deals / 26 June 2024

Le groupe Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, leader mondial dans le domaine du luxe, signe en ce mois de juin 2024 un partenariat stratégique avec le groupe Accor.

In June 2024, the Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy group, world leader in the luxury goods sector, signed a strategic partnership with the Accor group. Joffe & Associés (Véronique Dahan and Charlotte Gauvin) advised on the various intellectual property issues involved in this transaction.

This partnership aims to strengthen Orient Express’ position in the luxury travel sector, with projects for new trains, hotels and sailing ships.

The Orient Express, created in 1883, initially ran between Paris and Vienna, then extended its route to Venice from 1919, and then to Constantinople (Istanbul), thus serving several European capitals. By crossing Europe, this train symbolizes the meeting of East and West.

Since its acquisition by Accor in 2022, Orient Express has launched several notable initiatives, including the revival of a historic train and the launch of its first sailing yacht scheduled for 2026. The first Orient Express-branded hotels will also open in Rome and Venice, with other destinations in development.

The heads of the two groups, Bernard Arnault of LVMH and Sébastien Bazin of Accor, expressed their enthusiasm for the project. They emphasize that this partnership will explore new horizons and reinvent the art of travel, while honoring the cultural heritage and elegance that characterize Orient Express.
